Brenda Sharman

Founder/Director of True Beauty

Brenda Sharman grew up in the fashion industry after beginning her modeling and acting career in high school. She worked as a professional model and actress for more than 25 years and has appeared in numerous catalogs, videos, magazines, fashion shows, t.v. commercials and ad campaigns for clients from coast to coast. In 1990, Brenda was crowned Miss Georgia USA after winning the first pageant she ever entered. She went on to finish among the top six in the 1990 Miss USA Pageant and from there was sent to represent the United States in the international "Miss Flower Queen Pageant" held in Osaka Japan. Brenda competed as “Miss United States”, against women from 36 countries from around the world and won! In 1991 Brenda married her husband Steve who was also a professional model and they enjoyed many years of working together as a “model couple”. After growing up in an Agnostic family, Brenda’s search for God began in 1995 during her pregnancy with her first son, Stephen. Through the miracle and gift of becoming a mother, she felt a growing need to discover “Who is God and where can I find Him?” Her life was forever changed when she gave her life to Christ and joined the Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil in 1999. “I immediately felt like a different person,” recalls Brenda. “I could definitely relate to 2 Corinthians 5:17 which says, ‘If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has passed away and the new has come.” Brenda also realized that, “Our culture had grown increasingly more immodest, and indecent, and I had to decide if I was going to be part of the problem or part of the solution”, said Brenda. She began looking at the entertainment and fashion industry through the eyes of Christ and could see that the world of fashion and advertising had become increasingly more sexualized and immodest. She edited her photographs, her wardrobe and set new boundaries for what she would or would not wear, or do in her career. She also realized that young women were being influenced by pop stars, music videos and magazines and the images and behaviors they were seeing in the media. Brenda knew that the influence was often not a positive or healthy one. In 2006 Brenda became the founding National Director of Pure Fashion and was featured in media outlets such as The Dr. Phil show, ABC’s Nightline, Life on the Rock, USA Today, Newsweek, the Wall Street Journal, Marie Claire magazine, and countless other newspaper and radio interviews. Her insight into the world of fashion and advertising helped the Pure Fashion program grow into an effective program which helped young women realize their inherent dignity and cultivate in them a desire to live, act and dress in accordance with that dignity. After taking a break from Pure Fashion and focusing on raising her three sons, Brenda is back to help a new generation of teen girls facing the pressures of our modern era. With the rising popularity of the selfie culture, Brenda recognizes that young ladies are growing up becoming obsessed with their looks and how many “followers” they have…. instead of focusing on how they are following Jesus Christ. “My hope is that through theTrue Beauty program, young ladies will learn to feel confident about who they are, how they present themselves and who they are in the eyes of Christ. A person’s TRUE beauty flows from their heart and how they love and serve others. When a young lady recognizes her God given dignity, she will have a desire to live (and dress) with decency and discretion and this is pleasing to our Lord. In a world with so many “influencers” and “followers”, we are reminding young ladies that first and foremost they should be followers of Christ and that God’s word should have the greatest influence on their life. “Charm is deceitful and beauty is fleeting, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.” Proverbs 31:30

Lisa O’Connor

Hi! I’m Lisa O’Connor. I’m from Cumming, GA and grew up going to Pinecrest Academy. I attended UGA (Go Dawgs!) after high school and became a teacher. I moved to Charlotte with my husband, Ty and lived there for 8 years before moving back to Georgia with our two boys Jack (6) and Charles (5).

I’m excited to be part of True Beauty because I was part of a similar program,  “Pure Fashion”, and it truly impacted my life. It helped me to be confident as a woman and be who God made me to be. The impact that this program made on me and so many around me is the reason why I’m involved with True Beauty and I can’t wait to get to know all the girls!

I have a heart for supporting girls through their teen years because I can remember receiving so much love and support from everyone around me and I want to give back what I received.

God says,  “He is with us always!” and I want teen girls  to know how much they are loved no matter what!

Abby Foley

Hello I’m Abby Foley.

I grew up and went to school in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

I’m excited to be part of True Beauty because the mission is something I’ve been passionate about for years. I went to an all girls Catholic high school, and saw so many of my beautiful classmates struggle with self confidence and trust in the Lord.

God’s wonderful creation of all humans in his image and likeness is the reason why I’m involved in True Beauty and I can’t wait to get to know all the girls!

I have a heart for supporting girls through their teen years because I have seen first hand the beauty and grace that God provides to us and I want to encourage the girls to know they are loved and enough.

God loves all of us all of the time and I hope to express to the girls how much they are loved!

Shannan DePalma

Hi, there! I’m Shannan DePalma. I grew up in Pennsylvania but most recently lived in Florida before settling down here in Georgia with my husband John and our four children, Lucy (6), Fritz(5), Sawyer (3) and Magnolia (1).

I am thrilled to be a part of True Beauty because the mission is absolutely something I could have used in my formative years. I want teen girls to know that faith and fashion can coexist! Even more importantly, I want them to truly believe how much the Lord deeply loves them.

How each of them were uniquely designed for a beautiful purpose and that when we truly believe that Jesus loves us and we love Him back, our beauty can’t help but radiate! I can’t wait to walk with you and I am so happy you are here!

Mary Grace Brooks

Hi! My name is Mary Grace Brooks, and I'm currently in my final year at Kennesaw State University. I grew up and went to school in Marietta, GA but have called Canton home for the past 5 years. I'm incredibly passionate about encouraging high school girls to embrace their individual and unique beauty and to see themselves through the eyes of Christ. In this social media-driven age, I've observed girls seeking worth in likes, labels, and constant comparison. This concern is what led me to get involved with True Beauty. I firmly believe God has so much better in store for His daughters, and He wants them to love exactly who He created them to be. I genuinely can't wait to meet all the girls and walk alongside them on this journey! I have a heart for supporting girls through their teen years because I remember the struggle of constantly measuring myself against others and feeling like I wasn't enough. In turn, I want to champion young women to come to know God's abundant love, and I want them to understand that they have been chosen and created for a unique purpose. God reminds us that we are "fearfully and wonderfully made" (Psalm 139:14). My hope is for these high school girls to discover their ultimate worth, confidence, and purpose in Christ."

Alonna Wood

Hello, I’m Alonna. I grew up in Georgia and went to Woodstock High School before continuing my education and playing collegiate tennis at Samford University. I’m now furthering my studies in the field of nursing , a path that I believe reflects my deep desire to care for and serve others in both body and spirit. I’m so excited to be a part of True Beauty because I care deeply about the way young women see themselves in today’s world. With so many societal standards that stray far from God’s design, it’s easy to lose sight of what true femininity is. The idea of true biblical womanhood, the kind of femininity that is gentle, dignified, modest, and full of grace. True Beauty creates space for girls to be reminded of their worth, not by the world’s standards, but by the truth of Scripture and resting in that. My Godmother, Brenda Sharman, who lovingly introduced me to the Catholic faith, played a huge role in shaping my journey. Through her, I came to know the beauty of a faith-filled life and chose to be baptized. Since then, we’ve remained close, and she encouraged me to be part of this incredible opportunity , a chance to pour into young women the same way she poured into me. I have such a heart for supporting girls during their teen years because I remember what it felt like to struggle with identity, constantly trying to be in control of who I was. I wish I had focused more on who God says I am and the beauty He placed within my heart. Now, I want to remind each girl that she is already enough ,not because of how she looks, but because of whose she is. God says, “You are altogether beautiful, my darling; there is no flaw in you” (Song of Songs 4:7), and I want every young woman to know just how deeply loved and wonderfully made she is. -Alonna Wood! 😊

Catherine Ann Birozes

I’m excited to be part of True Beauty because I want to empower young women to be confident in who they are and feel beautiful in their own skin.

I have a heart for supporting girls through their teen years because I can remember what it felt like to chase perfection. I struggled with comparison, and the pressure to “have it all together.” My heart is to help girls feel seen, heard, and deeply loved- just as they are.

Our worth isn’t defined by the world, and there’s power in walking confidently in who God made you to be.

My prayer is that every girl experiences that truth through this amazing program.💗
